BCHR Style Loa Jr.
with Floral Scroll BCHR Pattern

This pen has what I’m calling a ‘Floral Scroll’ BCHR pattern. I was looking for a new pattern to engrave and ran across an unbranded pen with this floral pattern. My wife suggested I make ‘something girly’, so I thought this might fit the bill.
As with all my BCHR patterns, I created the pattern with a graphics program, then engraved it on the pen with a diode laser engraver. The hardest part of creating this type of pattern is to be able to have it look seamless all the way around the pen. Although your engraving a round object, the pattern is a rectangle consisting of the the cap or barrels width and circumference dimensions. So instead of a rectangle, I stagger the pattern so the finishing edge of the pattern overlapped into the starting edge creating a seamless pattern.
Engraving Coloring
With each BCHR style pen I make, I like to try something new. So with this pen I decided to see if I could enhance the engraving with some color. So I engraved a few extra parts and then colored them with acrylic craft paint. I didn’t want it to look too bright, so following the floral theme I choose lavender paint.
The coloring technique is simple: apply a few drops of paint onto a paper towel and then wipe it across the pen filling in the engraved areas. It will leave streaks of paint on the smooth areas, but that’s OK. The dried paint wipes right off the polished acrylic. After letting the first coat dry for about fifteen minutes, I applied a second coat to get a uniform fill.

The Loa Jr. can be ordered clipless as shown, or with a chrome tear-drop style clip.
Standard inking system for the Loa Jr. is C/C (cartridge / converter), but it can be upgraded to a lever-filler or button-filler.
