About this Pen and Material:
This pen is a nice example of how you can use the engraving to create a THEME pen. With this one, I used simple horizontal bars on both the cap and barrel, then carried the pattern up on the Final with knurling. The bars on the barrel are framed between two white marble acrylic bands. The reason the pen is called a DOCTOR, is because it carries a Rod of Asclepius image on the Barrel. Another feature is the custom surface mounted clip (this clip is the original silver casting, but I'll have them available in both gold and rhodium plating).
About the Engraving... As you look closely at the engravings, you may think they're a bit rough. But keep in mind the images are enlarged in order to show the detail. Just keep in mind that the laser's engraving DOT is only about .06mm. So the lines are quite thin and are created as the laser melts the acrylic. So what appears to be rough surfaces is only light reflecting off those engraved edges. What is rough though is the BOTTOM of indented lines. And since the engraving is black on black, I had to throw a lot of light on the pen in order to capture the engravings in the photo's. So because they're reflecting all that light, the edges appear gray and rough. But again, the lines are quite thin. The Barrel diameter is 13mm, and asclepius rod is only 1/4" wide, so you're looking at very small images. If you prefer the engraving to be more visible, it can be infilled with color.
